Mine Closure Surveys for Desert Tortoise & Sensitive Plants

Clark County, Nevada

BEC was contracted by the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Omaha District to perform field surveys for desert tortoise (Gopherus agassizii) and sensitive plant species during the closure of mines in southern Clark County. Field work included closure surveys, presence-absence surveys, and quality assurance surveys on Bureau of Land Management (BLM), US Forest Service (USFS), and National Park Service (NPS) managed lands.

Activities were coordinated with USACE, BLM, Bureau of Reclamation, Nevada Division of Minerals, USFS, NPS, US Fish and Wildlife Service, and the Nevada Department of Wildlife.

All work was performed under and funded by the Southern Nevada Public Lands management Act (SNPLMA), as part of the Bat Gate and Cupola Project (Round Five).
