Robert Wickenden
Bob Wickenden is a Civil Engineer with more than 30 years’ experience in public works projects. He has established a solid reputation among his peers and former employees as a dedicated professional and has demonstrated the breadth and depth of his knowledge through the variety of projects he has successfully completed. As the Nye County Department of Public Works Director and County Engineer, Bob was responsible for 48 Roads Department employees, a network of 2200 miles of paved roads, and an annual roads system budget of $4.2 Million. Additionally, he oversaw operations of three airports (in Beatty, Gabbs, and Tonopah), four landfills, and two solid waste bin stations. During his tenure with Nye County, Bob oversaw the construction of several public facilities, including the County Complex in Tonopah and the Courthouse Complex in Pahrump. While County Road Commissioner, County Engineer, and County Land Surveyor for Modoc County, California, Bob oversaw 1,000 miles of roads. The Modoc County Roads Department included 47 employees and an annual budget of approximately $3.5 million dollars. As the County Road Commissioner, Bob designed and replaced five highway bridges in each direction (divided highways). He replaced older timber structures that had degraded to unsafe conditions, with steel bridges expanded to two lanes in each directions. Spans varied from 75 to over 200 feet over rivers and streams. As Bob demonstrated his ability to manage Modoc’s Road Commissioner position, the County tasked him with additional duties, and he became their Public Works Director. The new department added an additional 34 employees and included new responsibilities for Building and Grounds, parks, six airports, five landfills and seven solid waste transfer stations. |
